Blaine Gabbert trade: What the 'Skins got in return

As we saw from the Redskins, they had a goal of not only adding talent, but leaning towards quantity over quality. It started when they traded the #10 overall pick to the Jaguars in return for #16 and #49. Seems simple right? Well from there it got wild. Washington made a plethora of trades, unloading #49 to the Colts for a pair of picks, one of which was traded again for for two more, one of which was traded again, and so on. Ultimately, for the total price of the #10 pick and throwing in #144 in a trade to Houston, here are the players that the Redskins picked up in return:

#16 - Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue OLB
#79 - Leonard Hankerson, Miami (Fl) WR
#105 - Roy Helu, Nebraska RB
#146 - Dejon Gomes, Nebraska S
#178 - Aldrick Robinson, SMU WR
#217 - Maurice Hurt, Florida OG

Not a bad trade overall considering they picked up six pieces who could potentially make the team while only giving up two picks of their own in the process.

You Be The GM!

We've all seen plenty of mock drafts in preparation for this year's NFL draft. The only problem with a mock draft is that once you get your first pick wrong, everything falls apart as players start to drop. With "You Be The GM," you can play the part of the decision-makers in each team's war room as the draft plays out. Here's how it works:

- Just like a team, you make the pick
- You have up until the commissioner or whoever is announcing the pick reaches the podium to tweet your selection to @DraftBlaze.
- I will keep track of how many correct picks you make, and have a running tally
- In the past, I have done the first two rounds myself the last two years, and I picked 17 and 21 picks correct in 2008 and 2009, respectively. In the second round, I scored 5 and 4 correct selections. 2010 was a down year, selecting 10 out of 32 correctly, plus 5 second rounders and 4 in my first try with third round picks.
- Once you make a selection, it is locked in, so take your time to make the right pick. In the event of a trade, things tend to happen quickly, so you must tweet your new pick very quickly before the pick is announced.
- Have fun, and challenge yourself to bring out your inner GM! Check back here (www.draftblaze.blogspot.com) after the first round for an updated leaderboard and instructions for Day 2.

Top 20 Set

Now that the regular season is complete, the top 20 picks of the first round are set (other than a couple coin flips for tie-breakers):

1. St. Louis (1-15)

2. Detroit (2-14)

3. Tampa Bay (3-13)

4. Washington (4-12)

5. Kansas City (4-12)

6. Seattle (5-11)

7. Cleveland (5-11)

8. Oakland (5-11)

9. Buffalo (6-10)

10. Jacksonville (7-9)*

11. Denver (8-8) (From Chicago)*

12. Miami (7-9)

13. San Francisco (8-8)

14. Seattle (5-11) (From Denver)

15. New York Giants (8-8)

16. Tennessee (8-8)*

17. San Francisco (8-8) (From Carolina)*

18. Pittsburgh (9-7)

19. Atlanta (9-7)*

20. Houston (9-7)*

* - subject to a coin flip

The San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks are the only teams with two first round picks. The 49ers have the 13th overall pick and the 16th or 17th pick that came from the Carolina Panthers in a 2009 draft day trade where the Panthers received a second and fourth round pick in return for their 2010 first pick. With those picks, the Panthers drafted DE Everette Brown from FSU and RB Mike Goodson from Texas A&M. Brown finished the year with 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks in a backup role to Julius Peppers and Tyler Brayton, while Goodson played in 7 games, mostly as a kick returner. Both of those players look to have a good upside, but look for the 49ers to make the most out of last year's trade and pick up a pair of good players in the first round.

Seattle is set up with the 6th and 14th overall picks, giving new head coach Pete Carroll a good chance to show that he can draft as well as he could recruit at USC. The Seahawks received the extra 1st round pick from the Denver Broncos in another draft day trade last year in exchange for Seattle's 2nd round pick. The Broncos chose CB Alphonso Smith with that pick. Smith played in a backup role in 2009, recording 11 tackles and 3 pass deflections.
